EC scraps Jamaat’s registration

Staff Correspondent: The Election Commission (EC) has scrapped the registration of Jamaat-e-Islami, one of the major allies of BNP led 20-party political alliance, ruling them out from any election henceforth.

A gazette notification was published from the Election Commission in this regard on Sunday (October 28).

According to EC sources on Monday, Election Commission secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed singed the notification.

From now on, Jamaat will be considered ineligible for any election.

The move comes five years after High Court declared Jamaat an illegal party.

Jamaat is a religion-based political party which did not believe in independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh when the freedom of independence happened in 1971.
