PM declares Sundarbans pirate free

Staff Correspondent, Khulna: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has declared the Sundarbans pirate free.
The Prime Minister said this at a function through video- conference from her official Gono Bhaban residence on Thursday.
A total of fifty-four forest bandits of the Sundarbans gave up their arms and surrendered to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan in Bagerhat town.
The bandits, from six groups, surrendered along with their weapons —58 firearms and 3351 round of bullet — at Sheikh Helal Uddin Stadium at Bagerhat Sadar.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan attended the function as the chief guest while Forest and Environment Minister Anwar Hossain Manju, Water Resources Minister Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Narayan Chandra Chanda, Sheikh Helal Uddin, MP, and Director General (DG) of RAB Benzir Ahmed were present as special guests at the function.
The Home Minister, on behalf of the Prime Minister, also handover cheques for Taka one lakh to 84 bandits each from nine groups, who earlier surrendered, during today’s programme.
