‘EVM being used in line with constitution’

Staff Correspondent: Law Minister Anisul Huq said that Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) will be used in polls under the constitution as it is written.

In reply to a query, he told this to the reporters after inaugurating the 24th Judicial Administrative Training Workshop at Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI) in the capital on Sunday.

When asked about BNP’s objection to using EVMs, he said, “I do not understand a thing that chairman of the constitution formulation committee (Dr Kamal Hossain) is now the leader of the party, how they can talk over the matter.”

“Once there was no regulation of announcing election results by computer or internet as the technology was not available then. And all things are not written in the constitution. EVM is being used under the constitution as it is written. So, it is said that using EVM is legal as per the constitution,” he added.
