Robber killed in Jashore ‘gunfight’

Staff Correspondent, Jashore: A suspected robber was killed in a gunfight with with Detective Branch (DB) of police in Dogachcia area in Jashore Sadar early Tuesday. 

The deceased was identified as Selim, son of late Jalal Uddin, hailed from Raipara area of Jashore town.

DB police Officer-in-Charge Moniruzzaman said the accused Selim was wanted in a dozen of cases. Police arrested him from Gobindapur area on Monday night. Following his information, police conducted arms recovery drive in Dogachhia village around 3:00pm. Sensing presence of the law enforcers, a group of robber opened fire on them forcing them to fire back in self-defence. Meanwhile, police fired 10 rounds of bullets.

Later, police rescued the bullet-hit Selim and sent him to Jashore General Hospital where duty doctors declared him dead.

One shutter gun, one bullet were recovered from the spot, OC added.
