Barapukuria graft case: charge framing Jan 31

Staff Correspondent: A court in Dhaka has fixed January 31 to frame charges against 11 accused including BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Barapukuria coal mine graft case.

Judge AHM Ruhul Imran of Dhaka Special Judge Court-2 passed the order on Tuesday.

The court fixed the new date as Barrister Aminul Haque’s lawyer appealed before court seeking date extension. 

Khaleda Zia’s lawyers Sanaullah Mia informed the court that she is imprisoned in the case. Sanaullah Mia moved for Khaleda Zia at the courtroom, said Khaleda’s another lawyer Hannan Bhuiyan.

The accused in the case are- BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, former industries minister Matiur Rahman Nizami, former commerce minister Altaf Hossain Choudhury, former health minister Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, former state minister M Shamsul Islam, barrister Aminul Haque, Md Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, Hosaf Group Chairman Moazzem Hossain, former acting secretary to the energy and mineral resources ministry Nazrul Islam, former Petrobangla Director Mainul Ahsan and AKM Mosharraf Hossain.

On February 26, 2008, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case with Shahbagh police station against Khaleda and 16 others.
