It’s a warning: AG

Staff Correspondent: Attorney General (AG) Mahbubey Alam has termed the order issued by the Supreme Court’s Appellate Division ruling out BNP nominated candidate Sabira Sultana from contesting polls as a warning.

He said, “Because of the order, People, who were sentenced to more than two years in jail for a criminal offence involving moral turpitude, cannot contest the election, even if an appeal is pending.”

The AG told this to the reporters at his office at the Supreme Court on Sunday.

In reply to query, he said, “Today’s order is obviously a milestone. The court did not want that people, who committed criminal offence, contest polls.”
