HC orders to accept Imran H Sarker’s nomination paper

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) has ordered the Election Commission (EC) to accept the nomination paper of Gonojagoron Moncho Spokesperson Dr Imran H Sarker.

An HC bench of Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Justice Rajik Al Jalil passed the order on Sunday.

Barrister Tania Amir moved for Imran H Sarker while Deputy Attorney General Mokhlesur Rahman represented the state at the courtroom.

On December 7, the Election Commission rejected Gonojagoron Moncho Spokesperson Dr Imran H Sarker’s appeal petition to overturn the rejection of his nomination papers.

The Shahbagh movement leader was vying for candidacy from Kurigram-4 constituency as an independent.

His appeal was rejected by the Commission on Friday after a hearing. His nomination was rejected by the returning officer on the grounds that he did not present the signatures of one percent of the voters of his constituency.
