AL seeks EC intervention on stopping use of black money in polls

Staff Correspondent: The ruling Awami League has sought intervention of the Election Commission (EC) so that BNP, Jamaat and Jatiya Oikyafront cannot be able to influence the forthcoming December 30 general elections by using black money.
A delegation of the Awami League on Tuesday evening went to the EC and sought its intervention after a meeting with the EC secretary at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon.
Later at a press briefing, AL leader Md Akhtaruzzaman said use of black money is an obstacle to holding a free and fair election. BNP-Jamaat combine is spreading black money to influence the upcoming general elections. Side by side, they are carrying out attacks on the AL leaders and activists.
Two activists of BNP candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency Mirza Abbas were caught red-handed while spreading black money, he cited.
He demanded that the EC take a legal action in this connection.
