Don’t need security but no objection if cops want: Kamal

Senior Correspondent: “I don’t need security but if police think that I need security, then I have no objection to it,” Jatiya Oikyafront Convener Dr Kamal Hossain said while responding to a query asked by police today.

A team of police officials, led by Deputy Commissioner of Motijheel Zone Anwar Hossain, went to Dr Kamal Hossain’s chamber in Dhaka’s Motijheel area around 12:30 pm to discuss “security issues”.

The police officials held a meeting with Dr Kamal, also president of Gono Forum, at his Motijheel chamber.

DC Anwar briefed reporters after emerging from Dr Kamal's chamber around 1:45pm.

During the briefing, DC Anwar told journalists that the police officials met Dr Kamal to discuss security measures taken for him and he expressed satisfaction over it.

Earlier, several police teams took position in front of Dr Kamal Hossain's office around 12:05 pm.

Asked whether there was any security threat to him, Anwar Hossain said, “No … we’re here as part of our normal duty. We discussed openly and wanted to know if he (Kamal) has any observation regarding his security and he said nothing instantly, but he’ll inform us over phone if he notices anything.”

“Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia also talked to Dr Kamal over phone although he was supposed to meet him,” Anwar Hossain added.
