Seat will be vacant unless taking oath by 90 days

Staff Correspondent: Election Commission (EC) secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said that the seat will be vacant if any candidate-elect does not take oath by 90 days beginning the parliament session.
He on Wednesday said this when asked that five BNP candidates-elects will not swear in.
Helal Uddin Ahmed said, “According to the constitution, there is obligation to take oath within three days after gazette in this regard publishes and parliament session must be called within 30 days. Parliament will announce the seat vacant if any candidate-elect does not take oath and sign affidavit within 90 days of the parliament session.”
He further said, “EC is mulling plans to hold upazila election on due time. So, the polls are likely to be held in next month.”
“SSC examinations will be held in February while HSC in April. So, we have time only in March and we are planning to hold upazila polls in the month,” he added.
