BRTC staff demonstrating at Joar Shahara

Staff Correspondent: Staff of state-run BRTC bus service are now demonstrating at Joar Shahara depot in the city from Tuesday morning for arrears and some other demands.

Drivers, technicians and other staff located the depot’s main gate and started demonstration from the morning.

Around eighty buses from this depot usually travel on different routes, however today none of the buses left the depot, said a driver wishing anonymity.

Last time such a strike was held back in July. Back then the dues and arrears were cleared. Now, workers say arrears go as far as nine months for some.

Additionally, they are demanding pay from the national exchequer like other government employees instead of the earning-based pay structure.
