One-party cannot be democracy: EC Mahbub

Staff Correspondent:  Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder has opined that one-party can never be democracy. Democracy cannot bloom without multiple parties.

The Election Commissioner came up with the observation while addressing the returning and assistant returning officers appointed for the second phase Upazila election at Election Building at Agargaon in the city on Thursday.

“Not only participatory, the election has to be believable and acceptable,” he said. “We must ensure faith of the people in the election.”

He said the upazila parishad election has lost its worth due to non-participatory trend.

“The first achievement of an election is to make it participatory. But this Upazila election lost its value as it is not all-participatory,” he said.
