Pilkhana Carnage: Families of victims get financial support

Staff Correspondent: Families of the victims of Pilkhana carnage (61 families) got Tk10 lakh donation from the Prime Minister. All these families got pension commutation benefit.

The families also have received Tk5 lakh each from the Army Welfare Fund.

All the officers’ families got Tk8 lakh and soldiers’ families Tk2.50 lakh from Army Families’ Security Project fund. The families, except for the families of soldiers, got Tk 50,000 donation from BDR fund, while soldiers’ families got Tk3,000 each from Sappers’ Welfare fund.

Besides, the victim officers’ parents, spouses and children got allowance from the officers’ welfare fund.

During the last 10 years, Association of Bankers Bangladesh donated a total of Tk48 lakh allowances to victim officers’ families (except soldiers’ families). They received the amount as monthly allowance of Tk 40,000 or yearly Tk4.80 lakh. Each of the soldiers’ families also got Tk12 lakh donation from the association. They received the amount as monthly allowance of Tk 10,000 or yearly Tk1.20 lakh.

Furthermore, 56 families of the victim officers have received Tk2 lakh placement shares of Trust Bank Mutual Fund.

On February 25, 2009, a group of members of the then Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) killed 74 people brutally including 57 army officers at the Peelkhana headquarters of the paramilitary force.

Marking the day, the BGB and Army organized several kinds of programmes including Quran Khwani, doa and milad mehfil at all regions, sectors, institutions.
