Elections take place peacefully: EC secretary

Staff Correspondent: Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said the by-election to the mayoral post of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and polls to the new councillor posts in new wards took place peacefully.

The EC secretary said this while addressing a press conference at media center of Nirbachan Bhaban in capital’s Agargaon on Thursday afternoon.

He said, “The polls took place in a peaceful manner. No violence is reported. Even, voting was not postponed in any centers.”

In reply to a question regarding turnout of voters, he said, I guess about 50 percent vote might be cast in the two city corporations.”

“National Voter Day will be observed tomorrow (March 1) for the first time in Bangladesh. We have took initiatives to observe the day across the country,” he added.
