‘Man-made accident is killing of people’

Staff Correspondent: Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim has said that “No accident is small, we can say a man-made accident is not a small thing, it is killing of people”.

The minister said this after visiting the DNCC market at Gulshan-1 in the city on Saturday morning.

Rezaul Karim said, "Many buildings in the capital have been built without following the construction rules, the buildings which do not have fire extinguishers will be identified within 15 days, if necessary, those will be sealed. RAJUK will start work from tomorrow (Sunday)”.

The minister said, "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is hard against irregularities. So, who have been built buildings without complying with the building code, action will be taken against them”.

Earlier, a fire broke out at the kitchen market near DNCC market at Gulshan-1 in the city early Saturday.

The fire originated at the tin-shed kitchen market around 5:30am. Then, the fire engulfed the third floor of the adjacent Gulshan market.

Twenty firefighting units brought the blaze under control around 8:25am, sources at the Fire Service and Civil Defence said.
