‘Fire extinguishing system in markets to be checked’

Staff Correspondent: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam said that the fire extinguishing systems in capital’s markets, business institutions and shopping centers will be checked.

The city mayor said this while addressing reporters after visiting the DNCC marker in Gulshan-1 on Saturday.

“If there is no fire extinguishing system in the markets or buildings then action will be taken against the building owner and shop owner associations,” he said.

He also said, “Still there is no fire extinguishing system in this market. We wanted to build a permanent DNCC market here. But, there is a complexity of court cases. We will move forward to build a permanent market after settlement of the case.”

Earlier, a fire broke out at a kitchen market near the Gulshan- 1 DNCC Market in the capital around 5:30am. Later, 20 fire units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control around 9:00am.

A five member investigation committee was formed in this regard.
