Rajuk to begin drive on Sunday: Minister

Staff Correspondent: Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim has said that capital development authority Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) will begin inspection of buildings on Sunday.
The minister made the announcement while addressing newsmen after visiting DNCC market in capital’s Gulshan on Saturday.
In reply to a question, the minister said, “Rajuk will launch a thorough inspection of buildings across the capital from next Sunday, to check whether the building code was followed during construction, and if they have proper fire suppression systems installed.
“Buildings found violating regulations will be identified within 15 days. All activities in those buildings will be suspended, and structures will be sealed if necessary, until those violations are resolved.”
Meanwhile, the minister also said, “The Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is strict against irregularities. Actions will be taken against all involved in such construction like owners, businessmen, developers, and even the officials of the city corporations.”
“There is an allegation that probe reports don’t come to light. The investigation reports will be made public this time,” he added.
Lawmaker also film actor Faruk and top officials were also present on the spot.
Earlier, a fire broke out at a kitchen market near the Gulshan- 1 DNCC Market in the capital around 5:30am. Later, 20 fire units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control around 9:00am on Saturday.
