Seven officials arrested for election anomalies: EC Secretary

Staff Correspondent: Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said that seven officials were arrested for their alleged involvement in anomalies during polls of fourth phase upazila election.

He said this while briefing media at Nirbachan Bhaabn in the capital’s Agargaon on Sunday evening.

EC Secretary said voting in a upazila and 12 centres was suspended along with arresting seven officials.

He further said the suspended upazila is Titas of Cumilla and the 12 centres are three of Munshiganj, one of Dhaka’s Dhamrai, four of Chandina, two of Meghna and two of Homna in Cumilla.

Besides, the voting was held peacefully in other centres, he added.

Voting was held in 107 upazilas of the country in the fourth phase of the fifth upazila parishad election on Sunday.
