Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court has ordered to investigate into a case filed against Shomi Kaiser for her behaviour towards journalists at the National Press Club on April 24.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Assaduzzaman Nur, has ordered Ramna police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) to submit a probe report on the complaint against Shomi, by June 16.
Mia Md Nuzhatul Hasan—editor of the Student Journal BD news portal—filed the case on Tuesday.
Shomi Kaiser, also the president of e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB), lost her two cell phones during an event at the National Press Club, where she was giving a speech.
Right after that incident, her security guards locked the gate and searched all the journalists and guests there-present.
Around 50 journalists and more than one hundred guests were locked inside the conference room for more than half-an-hour following the incident.
At one point, the journalists became angry because of the way they were searched, so they protested. At one stage, Shomi reportedly labeled the reporters “thieves” which sparked strong criticism and condemnation from the journalists present there.
Later, recorded footage showed the phones were stolen by a worker.
