Vitamin ‘A’ plus campaign begins Jun 22

Secretariat Correspondent: National vitamin ‘A’ plus campaign-2019 (first round) will be observed across the country on June 22.

A government statement came up with the information on Sunday.

According to the government statement, the campaign will begin at 8:00 am and continue till 4:00 pm on the day. Children aged between six months and 11 months will be given blue-coloured capsule of high powered Vitamin A and children aged between one year and five will be given red-coloured capsule of high-powered Vitamin A.

Vitamin ‘A’ supplement is essential for the normal functioning of the visual system, maintenance of cell function for growth, red blood cell production, immunity and reproduction, a source at the health and family welfare ministry said.

The supplementation is also important for substantial reduction of death rate caused by diarrhea and measles, it said.

Besides, various problems including eyesight and night blindness could be prevented and cured through successful implementation of the campaign, it added.

Mentionable, vitamin ‘A’ plus campaign was held across the country on February 9 this year.
