Staff Correspondent: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed the Ministry of Railways and Roads and Highways Department (RHD) to initiate the repair work for the ramshackle and old bridges soon.
The direction came from the weekly ECNEC meeting held at the NEC Conference Room in the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area with ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair on Tuesday.
Planning Minister MA Mannan briefed reporters after the meeting.
The planning minister said, “The railways minister started working soon after the train accident that took place in Moulvibazar’s Kulaura area Sunday night. For this, we extend thanks to him.”
Pointing PM’s directive, MA Mannan said, “The prime minister has instructed to conduct a survey on all bridges in the country and initiate the repair work soon for the bridges after identifying them as derelict and old ones.”
Earlier on Sunday night, six coaches of Dhaka-bound ‘Upaban Express’ from Kulaura veered off the tracks near Baramchal Railway Station due to the breakdown of a culvert, killing four passengers and injuring over 200 others.
