HC rule on paying Tk one crore compensation to Taslima's family

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) has issued a rule asking the government to explain why it should not be directed to give Tk one crore as compensation to the family of Taslima Begum Renu who was lynched in capital’s Uttar Badda area.
The HC bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal issued the rule on Tuesday.
The government has been asked to answer the rule within four weeks.
Renu’s sister Nazmunnahar Nazma and Nazma’s son Syed Nasiruddin filed the writ petition.
Advocate Ishrat Hasan stood for the petitioners.
Responders of the petition are Cabinet Secretary, Home Ministry Secretary, Law Secretary, Information Ministry Secretary, IGP, DMP Commissioner and Badda Thana OC.
On July 20, Taslima Begum, who was lynched, went to Uttar Badda Government Primary School to know information over admission for her daughter.
As it was middle of the year, people suspected her. They took them to headmistress of the school. In the meantime, a rumour of child-lifting was spread in the area. Later, hundreds of people rushed to the school and thrashed the woman.
Later, she was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the duty doctor declared her dead.
