'Drug trader' killed in Gazipur 'gunfight’

Staff Correspondent, Gazipur: A suspected drug and arms trader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Wednesday midnight.

The gunfight took place in Mollapara area of Salna under Gazipur City Corporation.
The deceased was identified as Sujon Mia, 40, son of Chand Mia in Arichpur area of Tongi.

Assistant Director of RAB-1 Md Kamruzzaman said one of its teams raided the area after being tipped-off that firearms and drug were being sold there illegally.

Members of the elite force came under fire as soon as they reached the spot, forcing the RAB members to back fire that triggered a gunfight.

Sujon was arrested with bullet injury but others managed to flee from the spot.

He was taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

RAB members also recovered four guns, nine cartridges and 1,200 Yaba tablets from the spot.
