Railway to get 200 meter-gauge coaches

The government is going to procure 200 meter-gauge passenger coaches from China through suppliers’ credit.

The project will require Tk 927.51 crore. Following the project, the passenger service in rail route will be increased.

Finanace Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal made the disclosure while addressing a standing committee meeting at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital on Monday afternoon.

After the meeting, finance minister said, a proposal titled 200 meter-gauge passenger coaches for Bangladesh Railway’ got approval today.

AHM Mustafa Kamal said, it’s an old project which is being implemented now. Of the total cost, Tk731.51 crore will come from the project assistance while the government will finance the rest – Tk213.99 crore.

In reply to a question, he said, “Passenger coaches became shabby. Prime Minister is also informed about it. Following her direction, steps have been taken to add new compartments.”
