Devotees seek divine blessings at Akheri Munajat

Lakhs of Muslims sought world peace and divine blessings for mankind and the Muslim Ummah as the second phase of 55th Biswa Ijtema concluded on Sunday through the final supplication- Akheri Munajat.

Noted Islamic scholar Maulana Jamshed led the 18-minute munajat at the Ijtema, the second largest congregation of the Muslims after the Hajj, on the bank of river Turag at Tongi.

The Akheri Munajat began at 11.49am and ended at 12.07pm.

Hundreds of thousands of devotees from home and abroad joined the Akheri Munajat to pray for world peace, spiritual progress, exaltation and welfare of the Muslim community.

The second phase of 55th Bishwa Ijtema began after Fazr prayers on Friday with the ‘Aam Boyan (religious sermon) by Islamic scholars and prayers.

Lakhs of pilgrims and a large number of people from the capital Dhaka and adjacent areas joined Jumma prayers Friday on Biswa Ijtema ground.

After Fazr prayers on Saturday, Islamic scholars delivered sermon.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Anwar Hossain said adequate measures were taken to ensure security for the participating devotees.

Gazipur City Corporation, district administration, police, RAB and Ansar and VDP set up separate control rooms to monitor the overall activities of the Tongi Ijtema.

Bangladesh Railway (BR) is conducting special train services on several destinations for the devotees participating in the congregation.

The first phase of the Tongi Ijtema began on January 10 at the same venue and ended with Akheri Munajat (final prayers) on January 12.

Tablig Jamaat has been organizing the Ijtema at this venue since 1967. However, the Ijtema is held in two phases since 2011 to ease the accommodation problem.
