Tabith files case for cancellation of DNCC polls

BNP nominated mayoral candidate Tabith Awal filed a case with a Dhaka court, demanding cancellation of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) election held on February 1.

Tabith filed the case bringing an allegation of irregularities and corruption that took place during the DNCC polls.

Judge Utpal Bhattacharya of Joint District Judge Court-1 of Dhaka accepted the case on Monday.

Advocate Masud Ahmed Talukdar stood for Tabith in the court.

Confirming the matter, Jahangir Alam, a record keeper (Serestadar), said the court will pass an order on the issue later.

The chief election commissioner, commission's secretary, winner candidate M Atiqul Islam and five others have been made defendants to contest the suit.
