Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of Muslims, will be celebrated across the country on August 1 as the new moon of the Arabic month of Zilhaj was not sighted in Bangladesh sky on Tuesday (July 21).
The decision came from a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee at Islamic Foundation's Baitul Mukarram office.
The committee with Religious Secretary Nurul Islam in chair analysed data of moon sighting came from different parts of the country in the meeting.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Islamic Foundation Shaila Sharmin confirmed the news.
