Woman molestation in Noakhali: HC orders removal of video

The High Court (HC) has ordered to remove a video of torturing a housewife after undressing her in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali from social media platforms.

The court also ordered the authorities concerned to provide all types of security to the victim’s family. Besides, the court also asked to form a committee to investigate whether police had any negligence in discharging duties.

The HC bench of Justice Md Mojibur Rahman Mia and Justice Md Mohiuddin Shamim passed the order on Monday (October 5).

Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Abdullah Al Mamun prayed to the court to remove the video footage taking into cognizance the news reports published in connection with the incident.

The victim filed two separate cases—one filed under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and other filed under Pornography Control Act—with Begumganj police station. Nine people have been made accused in the two cases.

The video footage of five men stripping a woman and torturing her went viral on social media platforms on Sunday.

Earlier, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two more suspects from Dhaka and Narayanganj in connection with the incident.

The arrestees are Delwar, chief of notorious gang ‘Delwar Bahini’ and Badal.

A team of Rab arrested Badal from Kamrangirchar area around 3:00am on Monday and another team arrested Delwar from Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Narayanganj, said Lt Col Khandaker Saifur Alam, commanding officer of RAB-11.

Earlier, police detained a youth named Abdur Rahim, 27, after the video went viral.

The law enforcers have also rescued the woman who fled her father’s home out of fear after the incident one month ago.

According to the video and the locals, five youths Delwar, Badal, Kalam, Abdur Rahim along with an unnamed youth, – all members of a criminal gang Delwar Bahini – stripped the woman naked and brutally tortured her under broad daylight on September 2.

In the video, the youths continued beating her up when she pleaded with them to let her go.
