‘Meeting of two prime ministers becomes fruitful’

Foreign Affairs Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen has said that the meeting between Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi has become fruitful.

He came up with the statement while briefing reporters over Narendra Modi’s Bangladesh visit at Hotel Sonargaon on Saturday (March 27).

The Foreign Minister said, “From March 17 to 26, five foreign heads of state and government visited Bangladesh to join the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence. Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi arrived in Bangladesh as the last special guest of the programme and on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh-India diplomatic relations. This is the first foreign visit of an Indian Prime Minister to amid the coronavirus epidemic.

He said, “Bangladesh-India multifaceted partnership has evolved, developed and prospered over the past half-century in the context of traditional cultural and geographical proximity and historical ties. Considered as a model for bilateral diplomatic relations, the visit of the Indian Prime Minister has undoubtedly reaffirmed our genuine friendship.”

“Today, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and India had a formal meeting in a very cordial atmosphere. Although the visit is somewhat ceremonial, there had been extremely meaningful and substantive discussions between the two sides on the multidimensional and wide range of bilateral relations. As a result, we firmly believe that existing bilateral cooperation will be further accelerated and strengthened. India Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the unprecedented achievements of Bangladesh under the progressive leadership of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the areas of human resource and physical infrastructure development, poverty alleviation, eradication of terrorism and economic progress. They also discussed various plans to jointly celebrate the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh-India diplomatic relations. Indian PM Narendra Modi has invited the PM Sheikh Hasina to visit India in 2022,” he said.
