Local Government Minister Md Tajul Islam said that the attack on the residence of Barishal Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Munibur Rahman over the removal of posters and banners has arisen due to misunderstanding.
The Minister said this while expressing reaction over the incident at his office in the Secretariat on Sunday (August 22).
He said, “There was a misunderstanding. Do you think anything else? All incidents happen due to misunderstandings. World War-I was also caused by misunderstandings. If the World War could be due to a misunderstanding, then why not a misunderstanding from here. World War-I was undoubtedly due to a misunderstanding.”
He further said, “They had worked despite allegations of waste disposal in Barishal. They had cleaned up there now. There were protest meetings and processions, but it was suspended. Maybe there has been some discussion between the administration and the mayor. They may have come to an understanding. They are responsible themselves and there are local administrations - divisional commissioners, district administrations, executive officers are also responsible. The mayor is a political figure. Naturally, he is a responsible man. They understood that it was a misunderstanding among themselves. It was not good for anyone.”
