UNESCO introduces int’l prize in honour of Bangabandhu

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization of the United Nations is going to launch "UNESCO-Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman International Prize”

It is expected that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would distribute the awards among winners on November 11 at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen revealed the matter in a press conference at his secretariat office on Saturday (October 30).

He said, the International Prize for the Creative Economy” was unanimously approved by acclamation at the 210th session of UNESCO's Executive Board.

This is the first time any international award has been announced in the name of Bangabandhu. It is a matter of pride for the entire nation, he added.

Primarily, the prize will be given for six years and then UNSECO can renew. A five-member jury board comprised of eminent experts will decide the persons or institutions for the prize.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin, state minister for foreign affairs Md Shariar Alam and others attended the press conference.
