HC stays decision of cancelling Zayed’s candidature

The High Court (HC) has stayed the decision made by the appellate board of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association (BFAA) election that cancelled the candidature of actor Zayed Khan.

The High Court bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman came up with the order along with issuing a rule on Monday (February 7).

The court issued the rule asking why the decision of cancelling Zayed’s candidature should not be declared illegal.

The court also asked the respondents to reply to the rule within a week.

Earlier, Zayed Khan appealed to the High Court (HC) challenging the legality of cancelling his candidature of appellate board of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association (BFAA) election.

The association’s appellate board cancelled the candidature of Zayed Khan for allegedly violating the code of conduct under section 10 of the election rules.

‎The announcement was made in a meeting on Saturday (February 5) evening by Sohanur Rahman Sohan, chairman of the appellate board of the BFAA. ‎

Earlier on January 28, Zayed Khan was re-elected general secretary for 2022-24 term in BFAA election.
