Hero Sohel Chowdhury murder: Accused Botol Chowdhury arrested

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Ashish Roy Chowdhury alias Botol Chowdhury, prime accused in a case filed for murdering popular film hero Sohel Chowdhury 24 years ago, on Tuesday (April 5) night.

RAB’s legal and media wing director spokesman Commander Khandaker Al Moin confirmed the news on the night.

Al Moin said, “Ashish Roy Chowdhury alias Botol Chowdhury, the number one accused in the charge sheet of the case, was arrested from a house at Gulshan in the capital. Two women along with a huge cache of drugs were arrested. They were brought to RAB headquarters.”

Earlier, the elite force cordoned off a house at Gulshan in the capital suspecting that the prime accused Botol Chowdhury is present there.

Sohel Chowdhury was shot to death by suspected terrorists in the capital’s Banani area on December 18, 1998. His brother Touhidul Islam filed a murder case with the Gulshan police station the next day.

After investigation into the case, police on July 30, 1999, submitted charge sheet against nine people and Dhaka 3rd Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court on October 30, 2001, framed charges in the case.
