The European Union (EU) wants the participation of all parties in the upcoming elections of Bangladesh.
European Union Ambassador to Bangladesh Charles Whiteley said this at a conference of the Center for Governance Studies held at Gulshan in the city on Saturday (July 16).
He said the European Union wants to increase political communication with Bangladesh in the next decade. However, the EU is concerned about the instability of this region.
He said that there is nothing to do, we only can advise Bangladesh as it is an independent country.
The EU ambassador said that SAARC and BIMSTEC can play an effective role in resolving the instability problem. However, the EU is giving importance to the Indo-Pacific Strategy to strengthen its position in the region.
Charles Whiteley said the European Union wants to help Bangladesh in the repatriation of Rohingya people. Although ICJ and ICC are working to resolve the crisis, we always want to work for Bangladesh.
The EU Ambassador said Bangladesh has made progress in other fields, besides the RMG sector. The European Union is also interested in investing in those areas. A total of eight countries including Bangladesh are now enjoying GSP facilities. So, Bangladesh should proceed with the right decision in every step.
Chairman of the Center for Governance Studies Dr. Manzoor A Chowdhury and Executive Director Zillur Rahman were also present.
