Sacked mayor Jahangir gets bail in 7 cases

The High Court (HC) has granted anticipatory bail to Jahangir Alam, the sacked mayor of Gazipur City Corporation, in seven cases filed against him for allegedly making controversial remarks on Bangabandhu and Liberation War.
A High Court bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Salim granted Jahangir the anticipatory bail for six weeks in these cases on August 4.
A source associated with the court confirmed his bail on Monday (August 22).
The cases were filed against him in Panchagarh, Rajbari, Gazipur, Naogaon, Madaripur, Gopalganj districts for his derogatory remarks on Bangabandhu and some martyred freedom fighters.
In September last year, videos of Jahangir making some derogatory remarks on Bangabandhu and some martyred freedom fighters at a programme went viral on social media.
Later, the ruling Awami League expelled him over the comments on November 19.
