The government has lowered the price of liquefied petroleum gas for a 12-kg cylinder by Tk 35 by fixing the new price of the cylinder at Tk 1,200 for the month of October.
Abdul Jalil, Chairman of Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC), made the announcement in a virtual press briefing on Sunday (October 2) afternoon.
The new price will come into effect from 6:00 pm today.
A 12-kg cylinder price was Tk 1,235. Accordingly, the price of each 12-kg cylinder has decreased by Tk 35. However, the price of 12.5 kg cylinder has not changed at the government level, so it remains at Tk 591 as before. The price of autogas used in cars has been reduced from Tk 57.55 to Tk 55.92 per liter.
Energy sector regulator BERC has fixed the retail price of LPG at Tk 101 per kg. Accordingly, the prices of cylinders weighing 5.5 kg, 12 kg, 12.5 kg, 15, 16 and 18 kg, 20, 25, 30, 35 kg and 45 kg will be fixed.
BERC has been announcing the price of LPG every month in coordination with Saudi Aramco company’s propane and butane prices to keep in line with the international market.
BERC fixed the price of LPG for the first time in the country on April 12 last year. Since then the price is adjusted once every month.
