US working to hold free and fair election in Bangladesh

US assistant deputy secretary for South and Central Asia Afreen Akhter said her country is keen to cooperate with Bangladesh over holding a free and fair election here in the country.

The US will also cooperate with Bangladesh over other issues related to maritime security including combating illegal fishing, she said.

Visiting US assistant deputy secretary for South and Central Asia Afreen Akhter said this while holding a meeting with Foreign Ministry’s Secretary (Maritime Affairs Unit) Rear Admiral (Retd) Md Khurshed Alam on Sunday (November 6).

Akhter arrived in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon (November 5) on a two-day visit to Dhaka.
