Metro rail starts passenger trip

The much awaited metro rail service started its passenger trip from Uttara to Agargaon on Thursday (December 29) morning.
A train left Diabari for Agargaon around 8.00am while another train left Agargaon for Diabari around 8.15am.
From the early morning, huge number of people gathered at the two stations to ride metro rail.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina opened the first phase of the country’s first-ever and much awaited metro rail service on Thursday (December 29) morning.
She opened the 11.73 km part of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line-6 of the metro rail project from Diabari to Agargaon by unveiling its plaque at 11.00am at Diabari in the city.
Initially, the metro trains will run from 8 am to 12 noon every day from Uttara to Agargaon stations without any stoppage.
The second section from Agargaon to Motijheel and the third section from Motijheel to Kamalapur railway station will be launched in phases. The metro rail from Agargaon to Motijheel will be introduced in December next year.
