Today is the 13th death anniversary of teenage girl Felani, who was shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) while crossing Anantapur border under Phulbari upazila of Kurigram on January 7, 2011.
A photograph showing Felani Khatun’s dead body hanging on a border fence made of barbed wire was picked up by international media, and the publication of these photographs evoked international concern.
BSF member Amiya Ghosh who shot the girl was acquitted by the Indian court.
Rejecting the verdict, Felani’s family filed a writ petition with the Indian Supreme Court.
Later, a trial took place a couple of times over the case. However, the trial still remains unfinished.
