The nation is celebrating the Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year 1430, today (Friday).
Pahela Baishakh is one of the most colourful and biggest festivals through which the Bangalees bid farewell to the old year and welcome the New Year.
The Bangla Nabobarsho festival is being celebrated at its traditional venue Ramna Batamul for the first time after two years due to Covid-19 situation.
The Fine Arts Faculty of the Dhaka University brought out the traditional Mangal Shobhajatra (procession), with the intention of dispelling vagaries of the old, and welcoming bright prospects of the new year.
The theme of this year’s procession is ‘Borisho dhora majhe shantiro bari,’ a line from a famous Rabindra Sangeet.
The procession began at the Charukola premises around 9:00am and ended after going around the Shahbagh area.
Dhaka University Vice-chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman led the procession.
