Coal import was halted due to the dollar crisis. Then, the power generation from the Rampal power plant stopped due to coal shortage. Ultimately load-shedding with heatwaves caused common people to suffer.
However, the ongoing load shedding situation has already improved. Adani power plant has started supplying of power. Along with this, the production of electricity has also increased slightly due to government measures. So, the power division is expecting that the situation will be improved more this week.
Power division sources said that electricity demand in the country would become highest 12,000 MW at the daytime and 14,000 MW in the evening on Saturday. Whereas on that day's actual power generation peaked at 11,089 MW during the daytime and 12,699 MW in the evening. In this situation, the concerned opined that there is no possibility of load shedding on Saturday.
According to PDB, the electricity demand on Friday was 11,300 MW at peak-hour while the production was 11,024 MW. As a result, there was a load shedding of 246 MW only in different parts of the country.
On that day, 6,017 megawatt of electricity was produced from gas-based power plants. Similarly, 2005 MW of electricity from oil-based stations, 1,743 from coal based, 25 from hydro, 209 from solar, 2 from wind, 928 from Bhemara, and 112 MW from Tripura was produced. At the same time, 759 MW of power was added to the national grid.
Power division sources claimed that these are playing as a key role to tackle the recent power crisis.
National Load despatch center sources said some areas of the country were out of loadshedding at 8pm on Thursday. The two distribution companies in Dhaka did not do any load shedding. Apart from this, there has been a promising improvement in the electricity situation in other parts of the country.
Power division senior secretary Md Habibur Rahman (BPAA) told risingbd that all possible parties are working thoroughly to solve the power crisis. People have come under electricity facilities at the highest level during the tenure of the incumbent government. The ongoing crisis situation has improved already.
Sudden rain is being considered as blessing. The overall loadshedding situation has improved across Bangladesh as the temperature has dropped after rainfall across the country. The rains brought down the temperature, decreasing electricity demand in the process.
