Faridpur double murder: 3 get death, 2 life term

A Dhaka tribunal has sentenced death to three persons and life term imprisonment to two persons in the murder case of Roshan Ali Mia and Mirazul Islam Tuhin in Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur.
Judge Jasmin Ara Begum of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 of Dhaka announced the verdict on Sunday (August 20).
Bench assistant of the court concerned Mizanur Rahman Khan confirmed the information.
Death row convicts are Hanif alias Hriday, Enamul Hasan Mia and Qayyum Mia and they have been fined Tk one lakh each.
Life timers are Awal Molla and Rezaul Matubbar and they have been fined Tk 50,000 each.
Other accused have been given punishment on different terms.
KM Raju alias Korban Mia, Shahidul Islam alias Shahid Mia, Rabiul Islam, Parvez Mia, Hafizur Rahman alias Tushar Mia, and Tuhin Mia have been acquitted of the charges brought against them.
Earlier, the verdict of the case was set to be delivered on August 13 but the judge was on leave after being diagnosed with dengue. Later, acting judge set August 20 for announcing the verdict.
After presenting the arguments of the prosecution and the defence, the court fixed the date of judgment on August 3.
According to the complaint, Hanif Mia Hriday of Kaichail Union of Nagarkanda had a dispute with Roshan Mia of the same area. On August 10, 2019, terrorists led by Hanif Mia shot and killed Roshan Ali Mia and Mirazul Islam Tuhin on their way home after saying prayers.
