BNP wants to play ill-game over Dr Yunus: Quader

Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader has alleged that BNP now wants to play an ill-game by making Dr Muhammad Yunus an issue.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, made the remarks while speaking at a rally organised at the city's Palashi intersection on Wednesday on the occasion of Janmashtami, a Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna.

“Evil forces are active ahead of the national election. Last time, they (BNP and its allies) accompanied Dr Kamal Hossain to carry out rampage. This time, they want to play ill-game by making Dr Yunus an issue. They want to destabilise the country again like the 1/11 but their hope will not be fulfilled,” he said.

The AL general secretary said in the past 14 and a half years, it has been proved that as a leader, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the best well-wisher of the Hindu community. During the AL's regime, the members of the Hindu community remained safe, he added.

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad President JL Bhowmik, AL central committee member Nirmal Chatterjee, Mahanagar Puja Udjapan Parishad General Secretary Ramen Mandal, among others, spoke at the meeting with Mahanagar Puja Udjapan Parishad President Monindra Kumar Nath in the chair. Local lawmaker Haji Selim was present.
