Singapore announces upgrading its consulate into high commission in Dhaka

Bangladesh foreign minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has held a bilateral meeting with his Singaporean counterpart Vivian Balakrishnan.

The meeting was held on Wednesday (September 20) on the sideline of the 78th UN General Assembly in New York, according to a foreign ministry press release received here on Thursday (September 21).

During the meeting, the two foreign ministers discussed various matters related to mutual interest and bilateral issues.

In the meeting, Balakrishnan said his government will upgrade its consulate in Dhaka into High Commission.

Welcoming the Singapore government decision’s to establish a full mission in Dhaka, Bangladesh foreign minister said this step would be beneficial for both the countries.

Dr Momen urged the Singaporean government to make further investment in Bangladesh especially at the country’s special economic zones.

The two ministers also discussed various aspects to increase trade and commerce ties between Bangladesh and Singapore.
