Bangladesh Railway to add luggage vans in passenger trains

Bangladesh Railway is going to introduce 125 goods-carrying carriages to the passenger trains.
A goods-carrying carriage or luggage van will be attached to each inter-city passenger train to facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce and other goods of marginalized people.
Railway sources said Initially a total of 125 luggage vans will be added. Of them, 75 vans for metre-gauge trains and 50 for broad-gauge lines. There will be 10 refrigerators in broad-gauge line (AC compartments) and 16 at metre-gauge lines to transport fishes and other frozen food items.
Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan will inaugurate the service from Kamalapur railway station on Sunday (September 24).
Earlier, Bangladesh Railway made an agreement with the Chinese company JV of CNTIC-RAILTECO-JINXI to supply the luggage vans. Already 20 luggage vans have been arrived from China as the first consignment.
