Sustainable Rohingya repatriation only solution: Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen has said that safe, voluntary and sustainable repatriation is the only solution of the Rohingya crisis.

The Foreign Minister came up the remark while delivering the key note speech at the ‘High Level meeting on Rohingya Refugees’ arranged by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Bangkok, Thailand on Tuesday, according to a foreign ministry’s  press release.

Dr. Momen urged for international community's meaningful engagement in Rakhine State to improve the situation there and to boost humanitarian support for the Rohingyas staying in Bangladesh.

The ongoing learning in Myanmar Curriculum and portable skill development activities for Rohingyas in Cox's Bazar and Bhasan Char should complement the repatriation initiatives, he said.

During the event, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi called on Bangladesh Foreign Minister.

Dr Momen thanked UNHCR for its continued humanitarian support for the Rohingyas and sought cooperation to realize the right and expectation of the forcefully displaced people to return to Myanmar.
