Babul Chisti, his son jailed for 12 years

A Dhaka Court has sentenced former Farmers Bank Audit Committee Chairman Babul Chisti and his son Rashedul Haque Chisti to 12 years imprisonment in a graft case of embezzlement of Tk 160 crore.
The court has also awarded five-year imprisonment to Babul Chisti’s wife Rozi Chisti and the bank’s former Vice-president Masudur Rahman Khan in the case.
The court has also fined Bablu, Rozi and their son Rashedul double the amount of embezzled money. Masudur Rahman on the other hand has been fined Taka 10 lakh, in default, he has to uffer one more year in jail.
Judge Syed Arafat Hossain of Dhaka Special Judge's Court-4 pronounced the verdict on Monday.
The court also ordered to confiscate all of their properties in favor of the state.
Earlier on April 10 in 2018, ACC filed the case under the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012, with Gulshan Thana accusing an embezzlement of Taka 160 crore.
Among the four, Rozi and Masudur are currently out on bail.
