Find a way through dialogue for peaceful elections: Peter Haas

US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas has hoped that all parties will sit for a dialogue without preconditions in a bid to find out a way for free, fair and peaceful elections.

The US ambassador expressed the hope after holding a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal at Nirbachan Bhaban on Tuesday.

Peter Haas said the US wants transparency and accountability in the elections according to the international standards.

During the one and half hours of talk, Peter Haas discussed about the issues like conducting free, fair and peaceful elections, responsibility of political parties, the government, voters, law enforcement agencies, civil society, media and the Election Commission.After the meeting, CEC Kazi Habibul Awal said, Peter Haas wanted to know about the election environment. We made it clear to him that we have no option. The Election Commission has to hold elections as per the constitutional obligation and on time.
