‘New salary structure for garment workers will be effective from Dec`

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has said that new salary structure for the country’s garment workers will be effective from December this year.

The minister said this after visiting Apu Munshi Cancer Hospital in Nabadiganj of Rangpur city on Wednesday (November 1).

“Discussions are going on with both parties regarding the increase in the salary of garment workers. The salary structure of neighboring countries is being verified. The salary structure of the workers will be implemented at the beginning of December this year”, he said.

The Awami League government took the initiative to increase the workers’ salary to Tk 8-10 thousand from Tk 2500, the minister said.

He said the government is working to reduce prices of essential commodities. It will take another month to bring the market under control.

Officials of the hospital and Awami League leaders and activists were present at this time.
