Bail denied, Altaf Hossain sent to jail

Former home minister and BNP vice-chairman Air Vice-Marshal (Retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury was sent to jail in a case filed for allegedly vandalising the chief justice’s residence, carrying out attack on police and killing policemen on October 28 last.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Sheikh Saadi’s court ordered police to send him to jail on Sunday (November 5).
Earlier, Altaf Hossain was produced before the court on Sunday afternoon. Then investigation officer of the case sub-inspector Abu Ansar of Ramna Model Police Station pleaded to keep him detained in jail until the investigation into the case was completed.
On the other hand, lawyers for Altaf Hossain pleaded to the court to grant bail. After the hearing, the court sent him to jail instead of granting bail.
Earlier, Altaf Hossain, also the former air force chief, was arrested from Uttara area of the capital early Sunday morning.
